September!

It's the end of September which also means the end of my post challenge! I'm really happy to say that I actually managed to do equal to a post every day! It was quite hard to think of ideas towards the end but luckily my spending habits gave me a few extra things to talk about!
I've had quite a few more views this month which is really nice to see! Hopefully people keep coming back after this month is over!
I've found that doing a blog post each day has actually been great because it means that I get a little time off doing homework and I get to just write for myself a little each day which I really love. It's a great stress reliever to be able to write about whatever I feel like and other things I love instead of doing solid work all of the time.
Thanks for reading guys!

Maybelline color tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate

This is the second item I bought yesterday! I've heard good things about this so I decided to get it in Pomegranate as it was my favourite colour of the available selection. It's a cream eyeshadow which I haven't tried before and so far I'm quite impressed! I love the packaging of this product, it's small and compact which is good for flinging in bags on your way out the door!
I used my fingers to put it on because I wasn't sure how it would act if I used a brush and it went on really smoothly! It's a really pretty red-brown colour but looks more brown than red when on! It has some really gorgeous golden flecks running through it which are really pretty, I think that it would be great as a general wash over of colour or an eyeliner!

Such a cute pot!

I love this colour!

It looks so different on but it's so pretty!

You can buy this from Boots or Superdrug for £4.99!

Have you tried any of this range? What do you guys think?

Revlon colorstay ultimate liquid lipstick in Brilliant Bordeaux

I'm a major sucker for lipsticks and lip colours in general but I've never tried a liquid lipstick before. So far I'm quite impressed! I bought it from boots earlier today because as I said yesterday, I wanted a darker lip colour for Autumn. I saw this and I was intrigued so I took the plunge and bought it!
I tried it on and it took about three coats to get the colour even and the same as the bottle. It was a little tricky as it dries quite quickly so you need to work with it quite quickly to get it looking perfect.
It's a long lasting product so it's quite drying but it isn't uncomfortable. It's also a good idea to make sure your lips are moisturised before using it though because dry patches tend to show up more. I wore it for about 2 hours before taking the picture below and you can see how well it's lasting! Afterwards, I put another coat on to see how much it had worn out and it was practically the same colour!
It feels slightly sticky when you're wearing it but I actually like the feeling so it's actually a plus point! I also had a drink in between applying and taking a photo so it lasted amazingly well! I can't wait to see what it'll fair like tomorrow in my only full day of college - hopefully it lasts the whole day!
The only problem I have with it is that it's really hard to get off, I need to use my make up wipes to remove it and even then it still takes quite a while to get it all off.
I assume I'll have to moisturise my lips quite a lot with this because it is quite drying but it's gorgeous and I assume I'll only wear it with a few outfits so it shouldn't have a big effect on my lips!

Such a pretty colour!
I love how bright this is!
It costs £7.99 from Boots

One Step Beyond

For my Dad's birthday present, my family bought him tickets for us to go and see Madness at Alexandra Palace last night.
It was incredible.
At some concerts, the bands don't sound very good and it's obvious that they use auto tune, but for Madness, they sounded identical to their recorded tracks. Even though Alexandra Palace is a huge place, they commanded the crowd amazingly and it ended up being such a great night.
Unlike most concerts I've been to, the majority of the fans were older so it was a much better atmosphere and it ended up that people were dancing around (albeit drunkly) instead of making stupid mosh pits.
They played all of my favourite songs of theirs and it was great fun being able to sing along and dance to them.
I've missed going to gigs but this one was well worth the wait, it's probably the best I've ever been to!

My favourite gig I've been to so far!

MAC madness

Over the last few days, I've been finding myself perusing the MAC website and every time I'm drawn to the lipsticks.
All of the colours are so pretty and I've heard so many good things about them so I'm very tempted to save up and get a couple!
My current favourites are:

Viva Glam I

Viva Glam V

Angel

Creme in your coffee

Sequin

Please Me

Brick-O-La

Ravishing

Shy Girl

Plumful

Pink Plaid

Creme cup

Bombshell

There are loads here and some are really quite similar. However, the swatches very rarely look like the lipstick on so I'll have to go and see what each colour looks like then choose out of my favourites in person! Obviously at £15 each, I'll have to cut this list down A LOT, or hope that they're all still around when I have money when I'm older! There are also Christmas and birthday presents too so I know what I'm writing on my list later this year!
I'm leaning towards a darker colour for Autumn/Winter as I don't have a proper winter lip colour. I also want a natural/peachy looking lipstick that can be used as a more everyday colour!
Tell me which you guys prefer!

Sick Days.

I'm not feeling particularly great as the moment as I've caught the cold and sore throat that seems to be going round. It's only a cold but it's one of those nasty ones though which drain you so I'm not feeling like doing much.
I took a couple of books out of the library today to help me with this year and to add some extra items to my personal statement read list so at least I can do some reading whilst curled up on my sofa. I love looking through the classics shelves in the library because I always end up finding new and exciting books that are relevant to my course!
I found a book about my Ancient History course this year and then I found one linking my art course to Archaeology which I am finding really interesting! I'm glad I'll be able to read them and link passages in the book to what I'm currently learning!
I'm lucky that I don't have any proper homework for this weekend so I can take it easy and get better in time for Monday!

Worry.

I am underestimating the amount of work I have to do for my lessons and personal statement. I keep trundling along, just doing the pieces of work I've been given in my lessons, but not doing anything else to improve the amount of stuff I can write about in my personal statement. I also need to do more of the actual personal statement come to think of it!
There is very little happening in my life apart from college work and preparing for Uni currently and I'm worried because I don't seem to understand the sheer enormity of the workload I already have, three weeks in to the first term of college. I could be doing so much more than what I am so I think I'm going to try and work harder and for longer by using my frees at college properly so I can use my time at home to focus on my personal statement and things to go towards it.
Hopefully I can stick to my plan and get more done, but this also means that I probably won't be posting as regularly after this month which is a shame! This year is completely focussed on my A levels and everything else is having to be put second.

Moving on.

I've been so busy sorting out various things for Uni and it's been a really hectic week!
I've been talking to my teachers and I'm now predicted BBB after my AS results which I'm quite happy about to be honest! It means that I'm more likely to get lower offers from Uni so I will be able to get in to the Unis I really like! I think BBB is more realistic than AAB for me and it's still good enough which makes me happy! It takes a bit more pressure off me so I have realistic goals, not unachievable ones.
I've also sorted out two lectures at Roehampton Uni over the next couple of months which I'm really excited about! They relate to my Classics course so it'll be great for my exams too!
I'm starting my Young Leader and Adult Leader qualifications with my Brownie group over this term as well so I'm quite excited that I'll get to do this before I leave next year - it's a great thing to put on my personal statement and CV so I'm excited!
I also found out that I can talk about my blog on my personal statement so I'm happy that I will get to use this for something finally!

Shoes and Accessories wish list.

I did a clothes wish list a couple of days ago and I decided to do one for my shoes and accessories that I'm craving!

1. Black flats

I could happily buy these as replacements...

I have a pair of these that are really comfy but they're so old that there are holes in the back of both shoes so I need equally comfy replacements!

2. Brown Chelsea boots

These are almost exactly what I want...I think!

I've been wanting a pair of these for far too long and have so many items of clothing that would look great with a pair of these. I just need to find a pair that I like and can afford now! I also haven't decided the shade of brown or if I want a heel or not yet...decisions decisions!

3. Brown (Tan) brogues

I love these!

Again, many outfits to pair them with, just lacking the shoe! I've actually decided that I want them in a tan colour and not heeled for these!

4. Longchamp le pliage bag

The red one is my favourite but all of the colours are so pretty!

I've heard so many good things about these bags and I really love them even though my mum finds them boring and quite horrible. It's the perfect day time size for a bag and apparently fits a laptop, book, jumper, plus all of the usual items! They come in so many colours and I think that if I ever actually bought one, I would get either the red or the navy so it would go with majority of what I wear!

5. Red flats

So similar to my current pair!

I have a pair of these and again, they're wearing out. They're my favourite shoes and my most comfy but they don't sell them in red at New Look any more so I was super upset to find I couldn't just get an exact replacement because they go with literally everything I own! I hope that New Look decide to stock them in the red again sometime soon so I can properly repurchase otherwise I'll have to find a more expensive alternative that doesn't feel as comfy! They were only £8 so I'm sad that I can't find them again - they were a complete bargain!

6. Nude heels

Not the right colour but they look pretty. Maybe a bit too high for wearing around daily!

I haven't got many pairs of plain heels and nude heels are one of the pairs that I think will go well with  a good few of my outfits. They're also classy and if I get a good pair, I will be able to wear them for a good few years to come! I really want to find the right nude as well, some (like above) are too sandy and I'm looking for more of a pink nude colour instead.

7. Black heels

They aren't skyscrapers or kitten heels so I think these would be perfect for work/interviews/a day out!

As I get older, I'm more likely to go to interviews or important occasions where looking smart is essential. Having a good pair of black heels will be a key thing so you can get them out when they're needed. I also think they'd look really nice with my new boyfriend jeans to dress them up a bit! They would also look great with a few other outfits and that's just off the top of my head! Black is great as they can go with anything!

8. Red heels

A bit too high for just wearing with every day outfits...the search continues!

My final pair. I wear a lot of navy so naturally red is my main go-to accessory colour. I've been toying with the idea of buying a pair of red heels for a while but I've never found a pair that's just right. I don't know if I want them to be patent or suede or leather or what! I guess I'll know when I try them on and either fall in love or don't.

I know these were mainly shoes but I don't have many accessories that I pine after apart from that Longchamp bag and I have far too many pairs of shoes on my list even though I already have far too many pairs (I'm a girl though so it's acceptable...right?)

Autumn days

I'm currently sitting by the window in my college library and the trees just outside are starting to turn golden brown. Autumn is officially here and I couldn't be happier. Autumn in my books equals everything looking pretty, wooly scarves, big cozy jumpers and hot chocolate. Perfection in a season! I love the colder weather because it means getting to wear extra layers and not having to strip down to the glorified underwear that summer clothes end up being by early August.
I can't wait for every path to look like this in a month or so!
Autumn also means there's more of an excuse to stay inside in the warmth as the weather gets wetter and less acommodating. That does mean that I get to use my scotty dog umbrella though which makes me unnaturally happy, I love being outside but dry when it's raining, there's something calming about hearing the rain pitter-patting on my umbrella and having it centimetres away from me but unable to get to me.
It also means that it's just that little bit closer to Christmas which is always a great thing and I'm super excited! Christmas is my favourite holiday because people are always nicer around that time (unless you're my old tech teacher who actually had a 'Bah Humbug' Santa Hat...) and there are Gingerbread lattes in Starbucks; always a good thing for a coffee addicted student who will be majorly bogged down with work and revision by then!
Darker colours are also acceptable to wear which is also a good for my navy, grey and black orientated wardrobe. It also means I can wear darker nail polish which I've been struggling not to do for the last month.
What are you guys looking forward to about Autumn?

My Clothes Wish List.

My clothing style has changed so much in the last couple of years and I've been creating a list of items that I think are 'essential' or 'staple' and will go with everything I own and make simple but cute and classy outfits. I also have a wish list of shoes and accessories that I want that I will put in a separate post.

1. White shirt
Pretty much the perfect casual outfit!
An obvious staple item that can be paired with anything! I love the idea of having a simple outfit of white shirt, jeans and some cute shoes in a bright colour. It's something that can be easily thrown on in the morning put looks really put together and classy

2. Pink shirt and Light Blue shirt
One of these in light blue too, please!

There's no point in putting these two separately really. It's pretty much the same idea as above but with a bit of added colour to the clothes, not just the accessories.

3. Black cardigan
Almost perfect!
It's a bit odd that I don't actually own one of these...the amount of times that I've wished that I had one is way too many to count now so it's probably time I bought one! I just need to find one that I automatically love.

4. Red cardigan
It would be perfect for Christmas!
There's a pattern forming of the same items in different colours...but I also find myself wishing I owned one like with the black cardigan.

5. Crew knitted cable V neck jumpers
I love the colour of this one so much!

I have the Bright Pink and Teal versions (colours no longer available) of this already and I love them so much! They're so soft and warm, they're my go to when I want to look put together but can't be bothered to actually think about my outfit that day. I think they're great and look so nice, all of the colours are amazing, I just want them all! The fit so well and look amazing, these are my favourite jumpers ever!

6. Red jeans

These are gorgeous!

I think a pair of bright jeans should be staple in every girl's wardrobe and I would love a red, orange or teal coloured pair. They're another item that you can put a plain top over on a lazy day and it will automatically look great.

7. Black Blazer

Something almost identical to this would be great!

Another item that I have wished I had on numerous occasions. I almost bought one from New Look about a month ago but it didn't look just right so I didn't buy it!

8. Grey Blazer

I also love the top on this.

My current clothes would go perfectly with a grey blazer! Again, I just need to find one that is the perfect mix between casual and formal.

9. White jeans

Can I have these please?

I was craving a pair all summer. I felt like normal jeans were getting really boring and I had so many outfit ideas that could include white jeans but I never had the opportunity to buy any!

10. White slouchy t shirt

I wish I could find something like this when I'm out shopping!

This would go perfect under one of my current blazers or jackets and would look great with my recently bought boyfriend jeans. It's odd that I don't actually own a plain white t shirt as it's one of the most basic staple pieces out there!

Hope you guys enjoyed this little post and it might have given you some ideas of what you want to buy in the future!

Petite Anglaise.

This is one of the two books I picked up at the last car boot sale I ventured to with Mark a month or so ago and I'm oh so glad that I did because I love it. I decided that it would be a good read for the train journey to/from college on Friday as I tend to sit alone (after a busy week, train relaxation and alone time is actually rather enjoyable!) so I grabbed it and shoved it in my bag as I ran out of the door. I'm so happy I did.
This book is a memoir of an English blogger (actual name of the blog is petite Anglaise) who lives in France. I'm only 32 pages in but I'm hooked. Catherine's writing style is so easy to read and quite funny at points, it's really very hard to put down which I can see as being a problem! I can see it being my go-to book for my daily train journeys, except for when I'm lacking in space due to the copious amounts of books I have to carry for my lessons each Monday (you'd be surprised at how much you have to carry for only three lessons...). It's also a hardback so it's rather awkward to fit in my bag. It does mean that it doesn't have the risk of being ripped to shreds by my constant taking items in and out of my bag though.
I'm really excited to finish reading it and hopefully I'll get some spare time to continue it!

My current food favourites.

I always seem to find new food and drinks that are completely amazing but I've never seen before!

1. Fox's Caramel Caffe Thins

My grandma sent them over and they taste amazing. They have a really nice texture and have a really strong caramel taste which I was really happy about because caramel flavoured things usually aren't very strong. They're apparently made to dip in coffee so I might need to try that sometime!

2. Nutri-grain soft & fruity - Strawberry

I got one of these off my brother before he eats them all on his sponsored run tomorrow and they're so yummy! They're healthy too which is always a positive!

3. Ribena Pineapple & Passion fruit

I had this a couple of days ago and I fell in love. I love tropical flavours and this is probably my favourite tropical drink to date.

4. Waitrose seriously fruity Sicilian Lemon sorbet

This makes me miss being in Sicily where you could get proper Sicilian sorbet on every street corner. This is a really good replacement though. I ate half of the entire pot because it's so addictive!

5. Cupcakes

I've had a thing for cupcakes for a while, I find them so pretty! This was one of, possibly the best cupcake I've had. We're getting a new car tomorrow and when we were at the dealership last weekend, they let us choose a cake so I got this strawberry flavoured one. It has edible flowers and glitter and tasted just as good as it looks. The cake was also really soft and wasn't dry at all which some cupcakes are so this made me really happy!

Obviously there are more, but these are my most recent finds and food loves!

The Ultimate Lazy Jeans.

I've been needing new jeans for a while due to most of mine being too small for me now so Mum ordered me another pair of my current jeans in a lighter colour and a pair of baggy boyfriend jeans.
They are the comfiest things I've ever worn.

They're so baggy!
I wasn't completely sure about how I would style them at first because I nearly always wear skinny jeans so my wardrobe is pretty much centred around outfits that include them, not anything loose. However, I ended up finding a few looser tops that I have that will hopefully look really nice with these! I wore them to college and I felt so comfortable, they're loose but don't look scruffy so they work really nicely. I wore them with converse, a purple top and a grey long cardigan and it was so nice to not care about what I was wearing or if anything was in the wrong place because it just added to the carefree and casual aspect of the look!
They're also great for driving in because they don't get too tight if you move you legs too much and they are really light so they're just perfect!
I can't wait to explore more style ideas including them in the future; if you have any suggestions of what to wear, they would be greatly appreciated!
Jess xx
P.S. I can sit cross legged in them and not feel uncomfortable which is a MAJOR plus point for me as that is my go-to sitting position when at home.

Sunday 15 September 2013

Half way.

I'm 15 days into my little post challenge and with 15 days to go, I wanted to do a quick update on how it's going! This post will end up being my 16th post so I'm a day ahead of schedule which I'm really happy with because I didn't think I'd be able to keep up with the amount once college started, but it's been easier than I expected - it's a really good way to relax and wind down after college and lets me write without it having to be work related! I want to continue writing the equivalent of a post a day in the following months because it's fun having to come up with different post ideas! If it becomes too difficult, I can always do one every other day which would make it easier!

I also went to my first of probably many 18th parties yesterday! It was one of my best friends from secondary school so I got to see pretty much everyone from my old school, and as per usual, it was great to catch up with them and it felt no different to when I used to see them every day! I also got to speak to some of my old closer friends that I hadn't spoken to for a while so I'm going to increase contact with them which will be really great!

Jess xx
P.S. This is also my 200th post! Time flies by, doesn't it?!

Friday 13 September 2013

Friends and realisations.

It was my friend's pre-birthday celebrations today because her birthday is tomorrow and is spending it with her family so me and a few others went to Pizza Express at lunch and then spent the following free with her and a couple of my other closer friends. Lauren had a lesson last so I hung around with a couple of other friends for that time which was a lot of fun because we got to just talk about whatever and rant about lots which was awesome! We then went back to Lauren's house to hang out for a little while and the four of us squashed on to a sofa to watch Friends which was great. It was the first time that I've fully realised that I do have close friends at college and I'm so grateful for them because they're really fun to hang out with. I'm happy I've finally figured this out!

Book Wish List.

I love to read, but during term time, I have very little free time when I can read fiction for fun. This means that my wish list of my books keeps getting bigger while my list of read books stays about the same!
This list is some of the most recent books on my wish list!

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle—and people in general—has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.
To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence—creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.

Vogue on Designers is a new series of fashion books which tell the fascinating stories of iconic designers accompanied by world-class photographs and illustrations from the Vogue archive. Hailed as 'the most influential female designer of the twentieth century', Coco Chanel pioneered classic easy-to-wear fashion for the modern woman. In 1921 she opened her Chanel boutique in Paris - still a destination store today - and launched her first Coco Chanel perfume, Chanel No.5. Perhaps her most important contribution to the fashion world was the simple, much-imitated 'little black dress' which made its debut in 1926. Other landmark creations include the Chanel suit and the quilted handbag. A testament to her lasting influence, these legendary designs remain as popular today as when they first appeared.
Accompanied by original illustrations and images from celebrated photographers such as Cecil Beaton, in Vogue On Coco Chanel Bronwyn Cosgrave traces the story of Coco Chanel's iconic designs, style and glamorous, racy life.

Italo Calvino's masterpiece combines a love story and a detective story into an exhilarating allegory of reading, in which the reader of the book becomes the book's central character.
Based on a witty analogy between the reader's desire to finish the story and the lover's desire to consummate his or her passion, If On A Winter's Night A Traveller is the tale of two bemused readers whose attempts to reach the end of the same book, If On A Winter's Night A Traveller by Italo Calvino, of course, are constantly and comically frustrated. In between chasing missing chapters of the book, the hapless readers tangle with an international conspiracy, a rogue translator, an elusive novelist, a disintegrating publishing house, and several oppressive governments. The result is a literary labyrinth of storylines that interrupt one another - an Arabian Nights of the postmodern age.

New York City, 1924: the height of Prohibition and the whole city swims in bathtub gin.
Rose Baker is an orphaned young woman working for her bread as a typist in a police precinct on the lower East Side. Every day Rose transcribes the confessions of the gangsters and murderers that pass through the precinct. While she may disapprove of the details, she prides herself on typing up the goriest of crimes without batting an eyelid.
But when the captivating Odalie begins work at the precinct Rose finds herself falling under the new typist's spell. As do her bosses, the buttoned up Lieutenant Detective and the fatherly Sergeant. As the two girls' friendship blossoms and they flit between the sparkling underworld of speakeasies by night, and their work at the precinct by day, it is not long before Rose's fascination for her new colleague turns to obsession.
But just who is the real Odalie, and how far will Rose go to find out?

Meet Valentine, an unforgettable and passionate woman with a heart and a dream as big as New York City. Her dream? To design the perfect pair of shoes ...The Angelini Shoe Company, makers of exquisite wedding shoes since 1903, is one of the last family-owned businesses in Greenwich Village. Now, in the twenty-first century, the company run so devotedly by Valentine and her grandmother Teodora faces financial ruin. Juggling a romantic relationship with dashing chef Roman Falconi, her duty to her family, and a design competition for a prestigious department store, Valentine accompanies her grandmother to Italy in the hope of finding inspiration. There, in Tuscany and on the Isle of Capri, she discovers her artistic voice and much more, turning her life around in ways she never expected.

Within the four walls of Kate Spade New York, personal style is applauded and cultural curiosity is encouraged. Long before the days of pinboards and social sharing, the brand's in-house creative team began amassing a collection of things we love: a crayon ring, a cocktail doodle, a particularly dreamy photograph. People began visiting and chiming in with suggestions. Now, the things we love have come to life in celebration of the brand's 20th anniversary. Each of the book's 20 chapters is filled with things we love, from the colour red, a well-placed bow to a sense of humour and handwritten notes. Part visual diary, part inspirational reference and sprinkled throughout with playful tips and practical advice, things we love is a beautiful compilation that visually represents the spirit of Kate Spade New York, a place where the colours are bold, smart design is key and fashion is fun.

I can't wait to buy and read these, they look so good! I think the Vogue On:... and Kate Spade books would be great coffee table books!
Have any of you read these books? Let me know if you have!
