First day back!

It was my first day back at college today which, to be honest, I was quite excited about as the modules I'm going to be learning about this term are really interesting! The only problem was that I didn't sleep very well so I was working off four hours sleep instead of the eight or nine I've been used to over the holidays. My last lesson was cancelled so I only had to be in until midday so it was a nice, relaxing morning to get me back into the swing of college!

The second episode of Sherlock was on yesterday which was amazing! I'm not sure how I feel about the direction Mark Gatiss is going with the plot this series - I like how the relationships are being built up and how much character development is happening but I almost feel as if the focus has been shifted to that which is detracting from the actual point of the show; a crime solving drama. I think they might be using this series to build the bridge between the old ways and the new (with Mary) and instead of jumping head-first back into the crime solving as it was before Reichenbach, they're showing the effect the last two years have had on the characters which I really like. I think that the new episodes work well, but knowing that there is only one episode left until an unknown length wait for the next series makes it more difficult to accept the more dragged out episodes and has me hoping that this last episode on Sunday will bring Sherlock back to its crime-solving glory.

P.S. Thank you to those of you that have filled out my survey, it's really great seeing what you guys think I can improve on! If you have any other suggestions that don't fit within the survey then feel free to pop them in the comments! You can fill out the survey here.

I've had this stuck in my head for the last few days, it's so sweet! The way they look at each other is just adorable.

  1. I'm back tomorrow, as much as I dislike college I've also missed having a bit of routine! I've already done a whole rant about Sherlock haha, I appreciate the need to develop the relationships and all but considering there's only 3 episodes I do think it's ridiculously overdrawn which I'm so gutted about, I'm really hoping they pull out all the stops for the last one!

    1. That's the same with me, despite having to get up early, it's nice knowing what I need to do and how much time I have to do it in! I'll go and have a look in a minute!
Yeah, if there were more episodes it would be fine, but considering how little we get anyway, there's a bit too much faff and not enough action! I do love the episodes, they just aren't the same as the last two series' and I don't know whether I like that or not. It looks like it will be great so fingers crossed that it will be good and the cliffhanger won't be too mortifying! xx

  2. I was back in today, it was nice other than finding out I have a evaluation to do tomorrow about last years project which will be fun! I love Sherlock, last nights episode was okay. I loved what they did with Sherlock and the wedding speech but I do agree with you, it does seem to be taking it's time. Since we only get three episodes a season not much seems to have happened. x

    1. Ooh, good luck! Last minute assignments are always a bit of a challenge! I thought it was really funny but I don't know, there's just something slightly off about this series. I still love it but there's just something there that makes it not as good as the last two series'. Exactly! It's too short to have these drawn out episodes so I hope next season will be action packed and as brilliant as ever! x

    2. It's the fact I have to speak is more the problem, and I was only in one scene of the show so I have bugger all to evaluate myself on. So its frustrating trying to prepare. I totally agree with you there is something different, but maybe they want it that way? Because John thought Sherlock was dead for two years maybe...but I'm not 100% sold on where it's going x

    3. Agh, that's never good, speaking in front of people is one of the things I really hate, even reading out in class makes me nervous!
I think that's what they're using this series for, to get all the emotional bringing the two back together stuff out of the way in one series, then having the next one the same as the old ones, I hope so at least! x

    4. I know! If I have to do a presentation you wouldn't think I'm a drama student, I get nervous and don't seem to be able to speak properly. But put me on a stage in front of a load of people in a silly costume I'm fine...go figure.
Yeah I hope so, though we'll have to wait at least another year for the next three! At least there are plenty of other things to look forward too, which will keep us distracted until then x

    5. I suppose if you're presenting, you're yourself and have nothing to hide behind, but if you're acting, it isn't necessarily you up there. :) I could never do either, I just hate being in front of people and talking!
I know, it sucks so much! I wish they could make them closer together but I suppose as the actors are all getting more famous, they're having to spend more time filming them and Sherlock becomes a back-seat project sadly. Yep, Doctor Who sometime this year! x

    6. Very true. This is why I want to become an actor rather than someone who has to make presentations haha.
Yeah it sucks, but they are they both have the third Hobbit film and other projects that we don't know about I'm sure. Oh yes! Can not wait. I've been looking forward to it since they announced Peter Capaldi, not that I didn't love Matt Smith but I didn't really like where it was going with him. What do you thinkg of Peter Capaldi? x

    7. Haha, good plan! ;)
Yeah, I'm happy for them but I also wish they were still less famous so they could spend more time on Sherlock! I love Matt, I was so sad to see him go! Stephen Moffatt can't write for toffee, that's the problem! Matt was fantastic in the role but crappy plots meant he didn't get to do it justice like he did in his earlier seasons! I don't know yet, but to be honest, I never like them when they regenerate but I warm to them all by the end so hopefully the same happens! I just hope Moffatt doesn't mess it up so much that I don't like him because he'll probably be quite good and more like the older doctors as he isn't young like Chris, David and Matt - it'll be interesting! X

    8. I totally agree, but that's what box sets and the internet are for so we can re-watch them when it's not on.
Oh I agree with you on that one. Apart from the 50th anniversary episode! Where did that come from? Why didn't he write episodes like that in the previous seasons? But I agree it was nothing to do with Matt himself, I loved his doctor so very different to both Chris and David, but the plots were all over the place after the first season for him. Oh I seriously hope not, it would be a shame because I think he's going to be a very interesting Doctor, although he's still not ginger! Haha x

    9. I thought they could have done more with the 50th! It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing! The Christmas special made me want to shoot Moffatt though, it was terrible!!! Yeah, I don't get why Moffatt decided to bring back tonnes of old plot lines for the Christmas special, it was just lazy I thought and it really didn't work. It would and I totally agree! I'm not sold on him completely yet but I can see him being good! Haha, I know! X

    10. True but some of the stuff that they'd written for John Hurt was gold! 'Again with the screwdrivers. What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?' And I love the interaction between the three of them.
Yeah, I got lost half way through...I didn't hate is, I was just confused most of the time. I did like his regeneration/goodbye though, I thought it suited him really well! Very him. And it was really sad, when he took off the bow tie. I used some of the lines from his final speech for my New Years Inspiration post :) I wonder if they'll ever make him ginger or if it will just be an on going joke x

    11. I loved their bits together!! I thought some parts of the plot were a bit lackluster though :(
It made me cry! You can tell when it's the actor instead of the character and that was definitely Matt! Definitely my favourite goodbye so far! I hope they make his last regeneration ginger :D
      Can I have a blog link? I couldn't find it! :( x

    12. There were some bits that they just left hanging and it seemed that they were just there for filler.
Oh yes definitely it was him, I think it had become a bit much for him but having put so much in...yes I think so, although I liked David's just because it finished all the story lines. Me too, but I've heard theory's that he's now got another 12 regenerations because of what happened in the Christmas special? Not sure how accurate they are though.
      Yes of course it's http://wp.me/p3pKGm-7y
My blog isn't actually through this account it's through Wordpress I just prefer commenting with my Google account because it has my name and a picture x

    13. Exactly! Some bits were just odd!
I liked David too, I just don't remember many of his episodes because I haven't watched them since the original airing so I was pretty young!
I don't know how I feel about that...seems like they're just dodging around finishing the series where it traditionally should which takes away from the very first idea of Doctor who!
Ooh, I do follow you (on bloglovin) so I'm not going crazy! x

    14. Yeah, there are better ways of doing things.
I loved him as the doctor. I have two of his seasons on dvd. One of my favourite eppisodes is either Blink or the Shakespeare Code.
Yeah I hope they don't, it would be sad for it to be over but it's like they're doing it for money rather than the story now.
      I thought you did :) I'm following you x

    15. I want to start getting box sets before I go to Uni so I can watch them back, I have Blackadder and the first 2 Sherlock series' but that's it!
I loved those two and actually remember them! Which was your favourite companion?
Yeah, it's annoying - I suppose that because it's such a legacy of British culture, it would be pretty stupid to end it, but they could have at least come up with a good explanation instead of the crap they came up with.
Yay! Thank you! I knew I recognised the name but because of this challenge, the amount of blogs I'm following is mad and it's so hard to remember people! :S x

    16. Box sets are great, I've started collecting them for when I go to uni as well :) I have 2 seasons of Doctor Who, 3 Gilmore Girls and 1 Supernatural.
Ah that's great, I really like them. Oh that's a hard one, it's a toss up between Dona or Amy and Rory. Yeah if they'd kept it good yeah, but as long as they're not just keeping it going just because. But yeah I agree they should have made it better.
Yeah same, it's hard with so many new people. It probably doesn't help that I don't sign off my blog with my name haha. I should start doing that. x

    17. I can't wait to get more! I need Merlin and Doctor Who really, then I'll be happy! I haven't seen Supernatural!
I'd probably agree with you, but I do love Clara as well, I think she's a great character! But yeah, Donna, Amy and Rory are probably my top three.
It's slightly crazy! I used to sign off with DFTBA...then I changed to my name because at least everyone would understand what that was! :P x

  3. I never seem to get enough sleep before the first day back! Totally agree with what you said about Sherlock - I've seen Sherlock well up like 3 times now?! I love the relationship stuff but not as much as the sussing people out/crime solving thing! xxxx

    1. It was the worst - it was awake until gone 2am for no reason at all as I had been tired all day! Exactly! I always used to feel so proud when I worked it out before Sherlock and John (worked out A Study in Pink way before they did and it was an awesome feeling!) but that magic has gone a bit, I didn't wholly understand the links and motivations behind the murders in yesterdays episode either which was a shame! It was interesting but just not as good! xxxx

  5. I wish I could be so excited about going back to school tomorrow as you are haha! I love Sherlock but I was a little underwhelmed by the second episode (even saying that hurts) but I just love the world surrounding Watson and Sherlock that I try and overlook the things I didn't like! Also, have you heard Tom Fletcher and his wife's cover of Moon River? It's really good!! x

I know, I feel bad for saying it but I agree! Yeah, they're both brilliant characters so even if it wasn't up to standard, they both played their roles brilliantly.
Yes! They're they sweetest and they both have amazing voices! x
